Progressive or standard lenses?

Clear vision at all distances starts with choosing the right lenses. Discover the differences and the options that suit you best.

You may have already started noticing small changes. You hold your phone a bit farther away, reading becomes harder, or your eyes feel more tired than before.

Until around the age of 40–44, things are usually simple. A pair of glasses with single vision lenses (meaning one prescription across the entire surface) is enough to correct vision problems.

At this stage, they work for what you need: you can see clearly both at a distance and up close.

After this age, however, a natural change occurs. The eye begins to lose its ability to focus up close. It’s not sudden, but you start to feel that things are no longer as clear as before. That’s when the need for a second pair of glasses appears: one for distance and one for near vision.

Bifocal lenses, a classic solution

To avoid having two pairs of glasses, a classic option is bifocal lenses.

These are “2-in-1” lenses: the distance lens also includes a near vision zone.

There are two versions:

those with a visible segment (which we at Best Optic do not recommend, mainly for aesthetic reasons)

those with an invisible segment, more discreet and visually appealing

Even so, both have an important limitation: they do not provide intermediate vision.

This means that activities such as working on a laptop or driving can remain uncomfortable.

Progressive lenses, the solution for real life

If you want to stop compromising between distances, progressive lenses are most often the solution that gives you freedom.

They allow you to see clearly:

at distance

at intermediate distance

up close

All in a single lens.

The transition is smooth, without that sudden “jump.” You can think of them as a gradient: your eye naturally finds the area it needs, depending on what you’re doing.

Standard vs. personalized lenses

Not all progressive lenses feel the same.

There are conventional options that mainly consider prescription and frame size. They are functional, but more general.

In contrast, personalized progressive lenses are designed based on you. They take into account:

your visual dynamics

the position of the frame on your face

the distance between your eyes

your daily activities

At Best Optic, these measurements are done using a ZEISS 3D scanner. Essentially, the lenses are created like a mold based on your visual parameters.

The result is significantly different:

faster adaptation

immediate comfort

clear and stable vision

For ZEISS lenses, there is also the option of a discreet engraving of up to five characters on the lens, even your name. Your eyes don’t perceive it, it doesn’t affect your vision, but it guarantees the authenticity of the lens customization.

These are small details that contribute to a proper experience.
